Add a product (the right way)

On this page

When to use this: adding a medicine to your catalog. Five fields matter more than the rest — get them right and billing, substitutes, GST and compliance all work by themselves.

Steps

  1. Products → Add product.

  2. Name & manufacturer — the name customers/staff will search .

  3. Salt & strength — the important one. Enter the composition and its strength in the structured fields (e.g. Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid, 500 mg + 125 mg). Substitutes match on salt and strength — a wrong strength here suggests wrong alternatives at the counter.

  4. Drug schedule — H / H1 / X if it's a controlled medicine. This drives the billing warnings and the H1 register — never skip it (→ BILL-08).

  5. HSN & GST rate — used on every bill and in GSTR reports. Unsure? Save anyway — it lands in the tax-review queue to fix in bulk (→ PROD-04).

  6. Pack & unit — how it sells: strip of 10, bottle, single units.

  7. Save. Stock arrives via purchases (→ PUR-03) — a new product starts at zero.

Common problems

  • Product doesn't come up in billing search — check spelling, or add the local name as an alias (→ PROD-02).
  • Wrong substitutes offered — the strength was entered wrong; fix it here.
