Add a product (the right way)

Steps

1. Open Products in the left menu and click Add Product at the top right.

   

   On this screen, 1 is Products, 2 is Add Product, 3 searches the catalog by name, salt or manufacturer, 4 is the count-and-filter row — total products, then one chip per drug schedule and one for archived — and 5 is Tax Review, which step 5 below sends you to.

2. Start from the medicine database. Type the medicine into Search Medicine Database and pick it. BitMed fills in the product name, salt composition, manufacturer, category and drug schedule for you.

   

3. Check the name and manufacturer (2 and 4) — this is what staff will type at the counter.

4. Salt & strength — the important one (3). Each salt is a chip with its strength, and + Add salt adds another for a combination medicine. Substitutes match on salt and strength, so a wrong strength here suggests the wrong alternatives at the counter.

5. Drug schedule (5) — General, or H / H1 / X if it is a controlled medicine. This drives the billing warnings and the H1 register, so never leave it wrong (→ BILL-08).

6. HSN & GST rate (6). These are deliberately left blank when you pick a medicine — click Get tax info to suggest them. HSN and GST rate are required before a new product can be saved. Suggested values are stored as unverified and appear in Products → Tax Review until you confirm them (→ PROD-04).

7. Units & packaging (7) — the Primary Unit it sells as (Strip, Bottle, Tube…), how many are Per Pack, and the Smallest Unit you can dispense.

8. Create Product (8). Stock arrives via purchases (→ PUR-03) — a new product starts at zero.

9. Confirm it is there. Type part of the name into the search box; the counts above the table update with the filter.

   

   Here 1 is the search term alp, 2 shows the result counts have narrowed to 2 Products / 1 Schedule H1, and 3 is the new product — with its salt, manufacturer, Sch H1 badge, GST and unit all filled in. Search matches anywhere in the text, which is why Calpol also matches alp.

Common problems

• Product doesn't come up in billing search — check spelling, or set a Short Code for the name your counter uses (→ PROD-02).
• Wrong substitutes offered — the strength was entered wrong; fix it here.
• GST Rate looks blank on an older saved product — open it and fill in the tax details. Get tax info can suggest values; review and confirm them in Tax Review. New products require HSN and GST rate before saving.
• Per Pack is editable later, and that is safe — bills record the pack size as it was at the time of sale, so changing it does not rewrite what an old bill meant.
