When to use this: products with no manufacturer barcode (loose items, generics, repacked goods) — give them a BitMed barcode so they scan at the counter like everything else.
Steps

Products → open the product → Barcode → Generate internal barcode — the button at the end of the Barcode field fills in a fresh in-house code and saves it right away (no separate Save needed for the code itself — though still Save if you've changed anything else on the product). It only appears on an existing product, once the Barcode field is empty.

For a per-batch code: Inventory → open the batch → Print label. There's no separate "generate" button for batches — if the batch has no code yet and your org has Batch-Wise Barcodes turned on, printing generates one automatically first. Use this when the label needs to carry batch-specific MRP/expiry. Posting a GRN generates batch barcodes the same way for every new batch received.
If Print label does nothing, the toast tells you why — Batch-Wise Barcodes is off for your org, you're offline, or your role can't generate codes.

Print them on your label stationery via Labels → Print Labels (→ LBL-03).

Check the registry — Labels → Activity → Barcodes opens Generated Barcodes. The Registry tab lists every code with its Mapped item, Last printed, Status and # Prints; Label type filters Product vs Batch, Registry status filters Active vs Retired.

Prove it — Billing → scan a freshly printed label → the product lands on the bill. Scan a batch-wise code and it bills from that exact batch (its own MRP/expiry), not whichever batch normal stock rotation would pick.
Good to know
- Don't relabel products that already have a manufacturer barcode — both scan fine; in-house codes are for the gaps.
- Codes are created one product (or one batch) at a time — there is no bulk "generate for everything" action.
- Retiring a code is done from the registry, not here (→ LBL-06). From the registry, Open mapped item only jumps to the product for product-sourced codes — batch-sourced codes can't jump yet.
- Viewing the registry and generating codes needs one permission; Export CSV on the registry needs a stricter one, so you may be able to view and print without being able to export.
