This guide explains how to install BitMed Link on a Windows PC used at a pharmacy counter.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| BitMed Link installer | The latest BitMed Link .msi file — you download it yourself from your BitMed account, as shown below |
| Windows | A Windows 10 or 11 counter PC |
| Administrator access | You need administrator permission to install the service |
| Free disk space | Allow space for the service, logs and growing local database; ask support for sizing for your store |
Already have an older version? You can install the new MSI directly. You do not need to uninstall the existing version first, and your existing local data will not be deleted.
Download the installer
You do not need anybody to send you the installer. You download it yourself from your own BitMed account, and you start from inside BitMed on the counter PC.
Do all three steps below on the counter PC you are installing on, so the file lands on that PC.
1. Open Settings and click Manage Subscription & Billing
In BitMed, click Settings at the bottom of the left menu (1).
The Settings page opens. The first row at the top is Manage Subscription & Billing — click it (2).
Your BitMed account opens in a new browser tab. This is the same account you use for your subscription and invoices, so you may be asked to sign in.
2. Open the Downloads page
In the account website, click Downloads in the left menu (1).
The page shows BitMed Link and the version number that is available today.
3. Click Download for Windows
Click Download for Windows (2).
The .msi file is saved to the Downloads folder of that PC. This is the file you will
run in the next section.
Installing on more than one counter? Repeat the download on each counter PC, or copy
the same .msi file to the other counters. Every counter runs the same installer.
Installation
1. Sign in as an administrator
Sign in to the counter PC using a Windows account with administrator permissions.
If BitMed Link is currently running, close it before starting the installation.
2. Open the installer
Double-click the BitMed Link .msi file you downloaded.
Windows may ask for permission to run the installer. Select Yes.
The BitMed Link Setup Wizard will open.
3. Start the setup
On the Welcome screen, click Next.
4. Accept the license agreement
Read the End-User License Agreement.
Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, then click Next.
5. Choose the installation folder
The installer shows the default installation folder, C:\Program Files\BitMed_Link\.
In most cases, keep the default location and click Next.
Only change the location if you have a specific reason to install BitMed Link somewhere else.
6. Start the installation
The installer will show a Ready to install BitMed Link screen.
Click Install.
Windows may ask for administrator permission again. Select Yes if prompted.
7. Wait for the installation to finish
The installer will copy the required files and register the BitMed Link Windows service.
Wait until the installation is complete.
8. Finish the setup
On the Completed screen, click Finish.
If the Start the BitMed Link service now option is selected, the service will start immediately.
You do not need to configure any ports or select a primary computer during installation.
What the installer configures
After installation, BitMed Link is ready to run as a background Windows service.
The installer:
- Installs the BitMed Link Windows service.
- Configures the service to start automatically when Windows starts.
- Configures the service to restart if it stops unexpectedly.
- Adds the required Windows Firewall rules for BitMed Link communication and discovery (→ network and firewall).
- Creates a BitMed Link shortcut in the Start menu and, where configured, on the Desktop.
- Adds BitMed Link to Windows Settings → Apps, so it can be uninstalled normally.
No additional setup is required on the counter PC unless your deployment instructions specify otherwise.
Verify the installation
After installation, perform these checks.
1. Check that the service is running
Press Windows + R, enter:
services.msc
Press Enter.
Find BitMed Link Service and check its status.
It should show:
- Status: Running
- Startup type: Automatic
If the service is running, the installation is working correctly.
2. Check the local health endpoint
On the counter PC, open a browser and go to:
http://127.0.0.1:47831/v1/health
A successful response should return a small JSON status response.
You do not need to change anything in the response. The important part is that the endpoint opens and returns a valid status.
3. Restart the PC
Restart the counter PC.
After Windows starts, check the BitMed Link service again.
It should already be Running without you having to start it manually.
This confirms that BitMed Link is configured to start automatically with Windows.
If the installation is blocked
Windows says the installer was blocked
If Windows shows Windows protected your PC:
- Click More info.
- Select Run anyway.
- Continue with the installation.
Only do this when you are sure the MSI came from your trusted BitMed distribution source.
Windows asks for administrator permission
Make sure you are signed in with a Windows administrator account.
If necessary:
- Sign out of the current Windows account.
- Sign in with an administrator account.
- Run the MSI again.
You can also open PowerShell as Administrator and run the installer from there.
Antivirus blocks the installer
If your antivirus or Windows security software blocks the MSI, verify that the installer came from the official BitMed source.
Do not disable security software just to complete the installation.
Windows says that another version is already installed
Do not uninstall the existing BitMed Link installation immediately.
The BitMed Link MSI is designed to update an existing installation. Run the new MSI again and allow it to upgrade the existing version.
If Windows still reports that another version is installed, contact the person responsible for your BitMed deployment before removing the existing installation.
Installation complete
Once the BitMed Link service is running and the health check succeeds, the counter PC is ready.
The next step is to connect the counter to your BitMed setup and verify that data can sync correctly.
