When to use this guide: To understand how BitMed automatically picks batches, and how to change the selected batch when a customer requests a specific one.
How Automatic Batch Selection Works (FEFO)
When you add a medicine to a bill, BitMed automatically selects the batch with the earliest expiry date. This is called FEFO (First Expiry, First Out).
- Saves Money: Selling near-expiry stock first prevents medicine from going to waste on your shelves.
- Safety First: Batches that are already expired are never offered or selected automatically.
How to Manually Pick a Different Batch
If a customer asks for a specific batch number or a longer expiry date, you can change the batch in seconds:

Click on the item row in your billing screen, or highlight it.

Press F9 on your keyboard to open the Batch Selection window.
In the picture above, 1 confirms which medicine you are picking a batch for, 2 is the list of batches, and 3 is the keys this window accepts. The batch already on the bill is tagged Current. (The medicine in this example has only one batch in stock, so only one row is listed.)

Each row shows the batch number, its expiry date, how much stock you have of that batch, its MRP, and its GST rate.

Use your arrow keys to select the desired batch and press Enter.
Faster still: press 1 to 9 to pick that numbered batch straight away. Esc closes the window and leaves the line as it was.
In the picture above, 1 is the batch number and expiry now on the line, 2 is that batch's MRP, and 3 is the line amount recalculated from it.

The line on your bill updates immediately with the selected batch number and its corresponding MRP.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't a batch showing in the F9 picker? If a batch doesn't appear in the list, it is either completely out of stock in your system or has already expired.
Can two batches of the same medicine have different MRPs? Yes. Different batches printed by manufacturers may carry different MRPs. When you select a specific batch, BitMed will automatically apply that batch's correct MRP.
