When to use this guide: To print clear medicine dosage instructions (such as "1 tablet twice daily after meals") directly on the customer's receipt so elderly or prescription patients never forget how to take their medicine.
How to Add Dosage Instructions
Step 1: Open the Dose Field
On the billing screen item row, click on or navigate to the Dose field next to the medicine. A small picker opens.
In the picture above, 1 is the Dose field, 2 is Frequency, 3 is Food timing, 4 is the Custom box, and 5 is the list of keys the picker accepts.
Step 2: Pick the Instruction
You do not type the common instructions — you pick them, which is faster and keeps the wording the same on every bill.
Frequency — how many times a day:
| Chip | Means |
|---|---|
1-0-0 | Once daily |
1-0-1 | Twice daily |
1-1-1 | Thrice daily |
1-1-1-1 | Four times daily |
0-0-1 | At bedtime |
SOS | When required |
Food timing — when to take it: Before Food, After Food, With Food, On Empty Stomach, At Bedtime, or None.
For twice daily after food, choose 1-0-1 + After Food. The receipt prints
Dose: 1-0-1 (Twice daily), After Food. To include an explicit amount such as
1 tablet or 5 ml, enter the prescribed instruction in Custom.
For anything the chips do not cover, such as 5 ml twice daily, type it into the Custom
box. It holds up to 60 characters.
Without touching the mouse: each chip has a small shortcut printed on it — the numbers
1–6 for frequency, letters for food timing. You can also use the arrow keys to move,
Space to pick, Enter or Tab to confirm, and Esc to clear.
Step 3: Finalize and Print Receipt
Press F10 to finalize the bill and print the receipt.
The instruction prints right under the medicine on the receipt, with the code spelled out in plain words beside it, so the patient can read it at home.
In the picture above, 1 is the dose line: Dose: 1-1-1-1 (Four times daily) — the shorthand
and its meaning together. 2 is the second medicine on the same bill, which was left without a
dose, so nothing is printed for it. 3 prints the receipt.
Dose is optional and per line. Add it to the medicines that need it and leave the rest alone.
